XAT 2011 analysis

BXAT is an MBA entrance exam conducted by XLRI to admit the most suitable candidates for the Institute. This has been conducted for more than 60 years and the exam scores are presently  used by many institutes as well.

This exam is generally held every year on the first Sunday of January. XAT 2011 will be conducted on January  2nd 2011. The exam is one of the toughest exam in the country and with CAT going into easy lines, XAT is considered "the toughest exam" for MBA entrance.

XAT 2011 was easily the toughest exam in the long list of exams for the entrance to National level B schools. Thankfully this was the last of the lot and the aspirants can relax until the results of the exams would be released. This time the questions had different marks for each questions, which ranged from 1 to 5 for each question.

Data Interpretation and Quantitative Ability
There were a total of 43 questions . Most of the questions were lengthy in itself to read and solving was definitely challenging. However there were about 5-6 easy to moderate questions . Candidates who have identify these and answered them properly would have good chances.

A score of  38-40 can be very good. The cut off for XLRI is expected to be around 26. 

 Analytical Reasoning and Decision Making
 A This section was also difficult and time consuming and required a good amount of reasoning skills. Most of the questions had choices , choosing between options was very difficult. The analytical reasoning puzzles except the Alex Company puzzle were difficult ones.

A score of 33-35 can be very good. The cut off for XLRI is expected to be around 23.

Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning 

There were a total of 34 questions. Even this section left no respite for the exam takers. There were quite a number of bouncers which was better left alone. The reading comprehension was intense. They were short but of a very high quality.

A score of 33-35 wold be very good. The expected cut off is around 21 for XLRI.

The overall cut off would be around 70 for XLRI. For others it would be much lower.

  1. Thanks for share good information. While many people describe XAT as CAT + Decision Making but that's not true as:
    a) CAT is laden with Quantitative Reasoning while on the other side XAT is more inclined towards Language Skills.
    b) The addition of decision making which is sacred only to XAT, adds weightage to the language skills. As it is more of a reading comprehension rather than Critical Reasoning.
